The Powys Local Development Plans, which set out the Council's strategy for the sustainable development of the area, cover all of Powys except for those parts of the county located within the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The Adopted Local Development Plan (2011 - 2026) is used by the Council to guide and manage development, providing a basis by which planning applications are determined and will be in place until March 2026.

Work has now started on a Replacement Local Development Plan (2022 - 2037) which will aim to come into effect by March 2026. Please follow the link below to the Replacement Local Development Plan pages to find out how you can get involved.

The Replacement Local Development Plan (LDP) will be drawn up having regard to the key issues and considerations affecting the County of Powys outside the Brecon Beacons National Park.   These will be addressed by setting out the vision, key issues and objectives which will be published at the Preferred Strategy Stage during 2023.

To inform the Preferred Strategy of the Replacement LDP, we be reviewing the key issues and objectives of the current Adopted LDP plus considering what changes have occurred since its adoption in 2018, for example, the Council's declaration in 2020 of a Climate Emergency (see Climate Change - Powys County Council), the emergence of the Mid Wales Growth Deal to support the region's economy (growingmidwales.co.uk), and the issue of nutrients particularly in those rivers designated as Special Areas of Conservation where water quality concerns are being flagged up.

This wide-ranging evidence-collecting work, which is undertaken with stakeholder input, underpins the Replacement LDP objectives and informs the strategy, policies and proposals that will address them.  Please check Latest Planning Policy News link below for updates.
