Scan|Recycle|Reward starts paying back!

Hundreds of Brecon residents have already returned and recycled thousands of drink containers through the Scan|Recycle|Reward trial, earning themselves a 10p reward each time.

Over the past four weeks, the Scan|Recycle|Reward trial has been rolled out in Brecon town, with residents and visitors able to earn a 10p cash reward for each valid drinks container they recycle through the scheme. The containers, which can be bought at most Brecon retailers, can be returned and recycled using the kerbside recycling boxes at home, or via one of the on-the-go return points around the town.

For those yet to take part in the trial, there is still plenty of time to join in and earn some cash for themselves, or for the two designated local charities - Brecon Food Bank and the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales.

"All you have to do is scan any QR code in the trial (in the welcome pack you received through the post, on the 10p green stickers on drinks containers, on the automated machines at Morrisons and Brecon Leisure Centre, or on a community bin outside Greggs and Aldi). Register your email address and start earning." Explains Duncan Midwood from Circularity Solutions, the company leading the Scan|Recycle|Reward trial on behalf of the DDRS Alliance, Welsh Government, WRAP Cymru, Powys County Council and local retailers.

"Not only can you return and recycle your containers through your normal recycling boxes at home, but you can also return them over the counter at Holland & Barrett, Spar or Premier store, through the community bins or via the new automated machines. There really is no reason not to get involved!

"And don't worry if you haven't got a smartphone, you can still join in by using the over-the-counter return options and the automated machines without a phone."

All soft drinks in cartons, cans, plastic bottles and glass bottles (except those sold in multipacks) are including in the trial - just look out for the green 10p stickers when you are next in a Brecon shop.

The Scan|Recycle|Reward team will be available over the next few weeks at the Aldi, Coop and Morrisons stores to answer questions and help you get started - look out for them when you're doing your next shop.
