Aim
- Social workers and managers have learning needs around the legislative and statutory responsibilities. Also practical applications around appropriate use of this option of care
Key Learning Outcomes
- To understand the legislation around S. 76 placements
- To understand the duties and responsibilities of the LA re S. 76 placements
- To understand the Welsh context
- To learn about best practice based on research, legislation and service user voices.
- To reflect on the importance of partnership working and relationship-based practice with families.
- To understand the importance of timely assessments and incorporating this within the pre-proceedings/ proceedings process where necessary
- What constitutes the LA placing a child under S.76 and what is a family arrangement.
- Is there any recent case law around how long a child should remain S.76 without the LA issuing a care application.
- Do the LA always need to issue a care application if there are no issues with the child remaining S.76 and parents are working with the LA.
- What is the law around UASC, should the LA issue a care application if they have nobody who can give parental consent for under 16-year-olds.
