A county councillor from Meifod has been appointed the new Chair of Powys County Council.

Cllr Jonathan Wilkinson, who represents the Llangyniew and Meifod ward, was elected chair at the council's annual general meeting on Thursday, May 16, succeeding Cllr Beverley Baynham, local member for Presteigne.

Cllr Wilkinson was first elected as a county councillor in 2017.

Elected Vice-Chair of the council at the same meeting was Cllr William Powell, local member for Talgarth, and Cllr Geoff Morgan, local member for Ithon Valley, was elected Assistant Vice-Chair.
