What can be recycled at the Household Recycling Centres?

You can recycle the following items for free at our Household Recycling Centres:
- Small and large electrical appliances
- Fridges and freezers
- Batteries
- Printer cartridges
- Light bulbs and fluorescent tubes
- TVs and monitors
- Glass bottles and jars
- Scrap metal
- Garden waste
- Textiles
- Furniture
- Cans
- Plastic bottles and tubs
- Hard plastics, such as toys or garden furniture
- Soft plastics, such as carrier bags and wrappers
- Cartons (from 1st April. Please see A-Z recycling list until then)
- Paper
- Cardboard
- Paint (from 1st April. Please see A-Z recycling list until then)
- Cooking oil
- Car batteries
- Household chemicals
- Carpets
- Mattresses
- Used engine oil
From 1 April: There is a small charge to dispose of the following DIY waste items:
- Rubble and soil (one bag per visit free of charge)
- Plasterboard
- Wood and timber (one bag per visit free of charge)
- uPVC window and door frames
- Window and door glass
- Bathroom and kitchen sanitary appliances, such as baths, toilets, sinks, etc
- Insulation material
- Roofing felt
- Plastic fixtures, such as downpipes, guttering, facia etc
- We do not accept asbestos

Please remember that you will need to book a time slot for your visit.
Things to remember before your visit:
- Wherever possible, please make use of the weekly kerbside recycling collections for:
- Plastics, cans and cartons
- Paper and card
- Glass bottles and jars
- Food
- Consider whether your unwanted items could have a second life? Find out more about choose to reuse.
- From 1 April 2025, you will need to pay to take DIY waste to the Household Recycling Centres. You can find out more on our DIY waste charges information page. If you are planning a house clearance or a large building/DIY project, hiring a skip from a reputable waste company would be more appropriate
- If you drive a commercial type vehicle or intend on using a trailer for your visit? You may need a Commercial Vehicle or Trailer (CVT) Permit. You can find out more on our CVT permits page.
- Before arriving at the Household Recycling Centre, all materials must be separated ready to be recycled correctly in the correct recycling containers.
- Any bags or boxes of mixed, unsorted materials will be refused.
- Items bought to the centre must be recycled correctly. Throwing anything away in the residual/general rubbish skips must be a last resort and only used for non-recyclable items.
- If you are unsure in which containers to recycle your items at the Household Recycling Centre, please speak to a member of staff who will be happy to help.
- Please wear suitable clothing and footwear when visiting the Household Recycling Centre.
- Children and pets must remain in vehicles at all times.
We cannot accept any waste or recycling from non-household sources (business or organisations) at any of the Household Recycling Centres. For details of how to legally dispose of commercial waste, please contact Powys Commercial Recycling .
