Why is a Wellbeing Assessment completed?

Children's Services can become aware of the child through reports made to them by;
- A member of the public
- A professional
- Self-Referral from the family or individual
When making a decision after the report, we will consider all the information and current work with the child and their family. The initial decision could decide that the child's needs for care and support should be assessed under a Wellbeing Assessment.
The purpose of the Wellbeing Assessment is to see if a child needs help and what kind of help they need. Children's Services must assess the developmental needs of the child, if there are any parental struggles or environmental needs and find out what outcomes the child and their parents/carers want to achieve
The Wellbeing Assessment should look at whether a provision of care and support, using preventative services, or getting information and advice can help you reach your goals.
The process of the assessment is about ensuring that the best interests and wellbeing of the child are met and children are safeguarded.
