What to expect: Initial Wellbeing Assessment

Children's Services has a duty to undertake a wellbeing assessment for any child who appears to have a need for care and support.
A child or young person with a disability is automatically assumed to be eligible for an assessment.

Why is a Wellbeing Assessment completed?
Children's Services can become aware of the child through reports made to them by a member of the public, a professional, self-referral from the family or individual

What does the Wellbeing Assessment usually involve?
A social worker will be allocated to undertake the assessment. During the assessment the social worker will meet with parents and other professionals involved with the family

How Long Does the Assessment Take?
We will aim to complete the wellbeing assessment as quickly as possible but this can take up to 42 working days where the assessment is comprehensive.

Children's Services must record the outcome of the assessment in a document. This document will explain how the recommended actions will help meet the needs found in the assessment.
