Looking After Yourself: Easy Ways to Help Lower Cancer Risk

While not all cancers can be prevented, there are small, positive steps you can take to look after your health and lower your risk.

  • Quit smoking: Tobacco use is one of the biggest causes of cancer. Getting help to stop smoking can make a huge difference.
  • Keep a healthy weight: Maintaining a balanced diet and staying active helps your body stay strong.
  • Limit alcohol: Drinking less alcohol reduces your risk of several cancers. Try to keep within recommended limits.
  • Stay active: Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week.
  • Eat well: Plenty of fruit, vegetables, and whole grains support your health.
  • Protect your skin: Use sunscreen and avoid too much sun exposure.
  • Attend screening: Take part in regular cancer screening when invited, early detection saves lives.

Making small changes can add up to a big impact on your health.
