What is Climate Change?

Climate change - River-Severn-near-Welshpool
  • Climate change describes changes to the long-term weather patterns. The main cause of climate change is global temperature change. Everything we make and do that involves burning oil, coal, natural gas (collectively known as fossil fuels), release carbon molecules into the atmosphere raising its temperature - this is the greenhouse effect
  • Changes to the weather systems are already affecting where and how people can live, even in the UK. There are more frequent and extreme storms and rainfall in winter, and severe heat events in summer.
  • Climate change happening now is caused by actions years ago and is getting faster. What we do we do now can help slow down temperature changes in the future.

Look at the Resources page to see how you can help, and get support, to protect future generations from the worst effects of climate change.
