Drop-in sessions to discuss proposals for first phase of health and wellbeing campus in Newtown

Do you live in or around Newtown? Or do you use health and care services in the town?

Find out more about plans for a new health and wellbeing hub in Newtown at our drop-in sessions at Hafan yr Afon on Back Lane;

• Wednesday 29^th October from 12noon until 2pm;
• Thursday 6^th November from 4pm until 6.30pm.

An online public engagement session will also be held on Monday November 10^th at 6pm-7pm and we will publicise the details of this in the coming weeks.

This is the first phase of a project to improve health and wellbeing facilities in North Powys. The first phase will focus mainly on services for people living in Newtown and neighbouring communities. Future ambitions include a replacement hospital in the centre of Newtown.

Powys County Council and Powys Teaching Health Board are keen to hear from people in and around Newtown about these plans to bring together a wide range of services under one roof, making it easier for you and your family to access the support you need.

Your views will contribute to a funding bid to Welsh Government which could see a £30m investment in health and wellbeing facilities in Newtown.

A team from the partnership - The North Powys Wellbeing Programme - will be holding the public drop-in sessions to discuss the proposals for the health and wellbeing hub. The information will also be available online later this month for people to view and have their say on the programme website www.powyswellbeing.wales.

What could the new hub mean for you?

• Access a new home for the public library alongside multi-use rooms for wellbeing activities, including those run by local voluntary groups.
• Benefit from a new training centre and academic library, supporting careers in health and social care.
• Find support for children and families, including mental health services for all ages.
• Visit a community and wellbeing area with refreshments.
• Access primary care services in a state of the art environment.
• Visit a more accessible building for those living with disabilities including a new 'changing place' in Newtown;
• Experience improved facilities for children's services (for example, PTHB children's services would relocate from Ynys Y Plant) and the Newtown Integrated Family Centre.

What happens next?

Your views will help to shape a £30m funding bid, due to be submitted by Powys County Council and Powys Teaching Health Board to Welsh Government this winter. If approved by Welsh Government - and subject to planning permission - the new hub could open within three years.

The project aims to create a healthier, more connected community, with easier access to preventative services that help you stay well and avoid unnecessary trips to hospital.

This is the first phase of a multi-phase project to improve health and wellbeing services across North Powys. Following our funding bid this winter, we will continue to work with local communities to develop plans for a replacement hospital for Newtown and new diagnostic and treatment facilities.

These developments are now being delivered through a multi-phase programme rather than a single funding bid. This is because Welsh Government has indicated that a phased approach to the Newtown campus is more likely to be affordable and achievable to the public purse.
