Three county council by‑elections will be held in Powys on Thursday 2 July 2026.

The by‑elections will take place in the following wards:

  • Glantwymyn
  • Llanyre with Nantmel
  • Yscir with Honddu Isaf and Llanddew

These vacancies have arisen following the election of former councillors Elwyn Vaughan, Claire Johnson‑Wood and Iain McIntosh to the Senedd earlier this month.

Standing as a candidate

The notice of election has now been published. Anyone wishing to stand as a candidate must submit their nomination papers to the Returning Officer by 4pm, Friday 5 June 2026

Voting information

If the elections are contested, polling will take place on Thursday 2 July 2026.

Registering to vote

Residents must be registered by Tuesday 16 June 2026.Register online: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Postal voting

Applications for postal votes, or changes to existing arrangements, must be received by 5pm, Wednesday 17 June 2026.Send to: Electoral Registration Officer, County Hall, Llandrindod Wells. LD1 5LG.

Proxy voting

Applications to vote by proxy must be received by 5pm, Wednesday 24 June 2026.Send to: Electoral Registration Officer, County Hall, Llandrindod Wells. LD1 5LG.
