Council Tax Premiums
In line with the provisions set out in the Local Government Finance Act 1992, as amended by the Housing (Wales) Act 2014, the Council has made determinations regarding the application of Council Tax premiums for long-term empty properties and periodically occupied properties. These premiums are set to encourage the occupation of properties and reduce the number of vacant homes within the community.

Periodically Occupied Property

Empty Properties
We want to see as many empty homes as possible in Powys brought back into use, and we have developed various financial packages to encourage people to bring them back into use. Empty properties can affect the community and cause many problems, such as attracting pests and anti-social behaviour.

In accordance with section 12a & 12b of the Local Government Finance Act 1992, as inserted by Section 139 Housing (Wales) Act 2014,the Council has determined to charge Council Tax premiums.

Council Tax: Discounts and exemptions on properties
Uninhabited, unfurnished, empty, or uninhabitable properties may be exempt from Council Tax. Specific types of properties are also exempt when they are dedicated solely to a special purpose.
