Report fraud, bribery or corruption

We have a Fraud Team who can investigate suspected fraud and other allegations that are happening against the public purse.

Here are some examples but do report any and all concerns to us.

Fraud

  • Council Tax benefit fraud
  • Council Tax fraud,
  • Blue badge fraud,
  • Social care payments fraud, Housing/tenancy fraud,
  • Grant fraud

Corruption

  • Corruption could be a preference given to hiring friends or family for Council jobs
  • Corruption could be hiring one's own company, or the company belonging to close associates or relatives to provide public services
  • Misuse of Council information
  • Misuse of Council materials
  • Forgery or falsification of records

Bribery

  • Bribery could be gifts or gratuities for some kind of advantage in Council services or procurement
  • Bribery could be the accepting/offering items or money, in return for preferential treatment or to cover up misconduct

You can tell us about your concerns anonymously and we hold any information you give in the strictest confidence.

Other types of fraud

To report identity fraud, online or internet crimes or corporate / individual fraud the police have a dedicated unit called Action Fraud which is a national reporting centre.
