Article 4's - Within Powys (outside the Brecon Beacons National Park) there are currently five Article 4 Directions relating to built heritage. Article 4 Directions apply in Knighton, Llandrindod Wells, Llanidloes, Machynlleth and Presteigne.  In these areas, planning permission will automatically be required for certain types of development to the parts of buildings fronting the highway, or in the case of Llandrindod Wells, where development would be visible from a highway or from public open space.  Whilst in the Knighton and Llanidloes Article 4 areas, the direction applies to the whole of the property.
