When do we collect?

We can provide various options for collecting both waste and recycling, please contact us to discuss a package to suit you.

From April 2022 we will no longer offer weekly residual (non-recyclable) waste collections in order to improve the recycling service. You can find out more by reading our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Are waste charges included in business rates?

No, waste charges are not included in your business rates. The amount, and type, of waste each business, organisation or charity produces varies enormously, so a blanket charge for waste disposal and recycling processing would be unfair.  We can provide a bespoke service and individual quotes, please get in touch to discuss in more detail.

What do the Commercial Recycling charges include?

The charges include:

  • All containers, for the duration of your contract
  • Regular collections
  • Disposal of waste, including landfill tax
  • Processing of recyclables
  • All contract admin, paperwork and duty of care documentation.

Managing your waste

Every business, organisation and charity have a duty of care, by law, to ensure their waste and recycling is processed correctly.

Environmental legislation changes regularly, and it is important to make sure you stay within the law. We can help by providing bespoke, cost effective and efficient services for businesses to ensure you are handling and processing of waste and recycling legally.

By working with our customers, we can ensure you comply with regulations whilst doing your bit for the environment by recycling as much as possible.

As a business, organisation or charity, it is important to know what you can and can't do with your waste to comply with regulations. Here are a few handy tips to keep in mind:

Do use a suitably licenced waste management company, such as Powys Commercial Recycling, to legally process your waste and recycling

Do always ask to see the waste management company's waste carrier licence before signing up to a contract. You can also contact Natural Resources Wales to check that your chosen waste management company is registered to remove and process commercial waste and recycling.

Do always get a waste transfer note for your waste and recycling and keep safe for a minimum of two years.

Don't let anyone take your rubbish and recycling away unless you have checked that they are a registered waste carrier and your waste is being taken to a site licensed to accept commercial waste - you will face a fine.

Don't use any of the Household Waste and Recycling Centres or Community Recycling Sites without a commercial recycling permit.

Don't store your waste and recycling on public land or the highway without the permission of Powys County Council.

Don't burn any of your waste and recycling without a permit from Natural Resources Wales.
