Y Lawnt (The Green), Back Lane, Newtown
The completion of Y Lawnt (The Green) housing development marks a significant achievement in addressing the housing needs of Newtown.
This three-storey building, comprising 26 one-bedroom flats, has transformed the former bowling green into a vibrant residential community. Managed by Powys County Council and constructed by Pave Aways, this £3.5 million project provides essential, affordable housing for applicants on the Powys Common Housing Register.
The development's design adheres to Welsh Development Quality Requirement standards and incorporates modern construction methods and sustainable, low-maintenance materials. The use of home-grown timber frames, wood fibre insulation, and aluminium-clad timber windows, along with mechanical ventilation and heat recovery systems, underscores our commitment to sustainability. The communal heating system, powered by just three boilers, further enhances the energy efficiency of the flats.
This project was made possible through the generous support of the Welsh Government, which provided a £2.2 million grant via its Innovative Housing Programme. Their contribution has been instrumental in realizing this vision of affordable, sustainable housing.
As we celebrate the completion of Y Lawnt, we look forward to seeing this development thrive as a cornerstone of the Newtown community. We are confident that these new homes will provide a safe, comfortable, and sustainable living environment for all residents. Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this project to fruition.
Project completed: July 2022.
