The guidance and tools shared here are primarily designed for care home settings, drawing on Welsh Government and Public Health Wales (PHW) guidance and adapted resources from the PHW Preventing Infection Workbook for Care Homes. Many of the principles and practical actions will also be relevant to other social care settings and to unpaid carers supporting people at home, even where the examples or layout reflect a care-home environment.

Health Protection Guidance for Social Care

This section brings together the most up-to-date Welsh Government and Public Health Wales guidance relevant to social care settings, including care homes, domiciliary care, and supported living. It includes current frameworks, infection prevention and control advice, testing requirements, and vaccination information. All sources are accurate as of October 2025, but please check regularly for updates, as guidance may change.

Health Protection Resource Folder

Adapted from the PHW Preventing Infection Workbook, this folder was originally designed to support Powys care homes in preventing and managing infections. Many of the tools and practical guidance it contains can also be applied across other social care settings and by unpaid carers to help keep the people they support, themselves, and others safe.

Health Protection Training and Learning

Includes self-directed learning from reputable, freely available sources, alongside facilitated sessions delivered by Powys County Council/Powys Teaching Health Board for Health Protection Champions, either online or in person. Many of the resources can be used by anyone working or caring in social care to support safe practice.

Health Protection Bulletins

Regular updates, tips, and resources to support Health Protection Champions in Powys care homes. Many of the updates and practical guidance may also be useful for anyone working or caring in social care to help reduce infection risks and maintain safe practice.
