When an adult has died and someone continues to live at the property, we need to know who has died and who is dealing with their estate. We also need to know in whose name the Council Tax bill will be.

If only one adult remains in the home they may be eligible for a single person discount.

The Council Tax Disability Reduction scheme offers a discount to the main home of someone with a permanent and substantial disability.

Uninhabited, unfurnished, empty, or uninhabitable properties may be exempt from Council Tax. Specific types of properties are also exempt when they are dedicated solely to a special purpose, such as only housing students or armed forces personnel.
