Apply for a Primary School Place
The Primary School Admission Round for Powys learners born between 01/09/20 - 31/08/21 opens on Tuesday, 1 October 2024.
The closing date for the admission round is Monday, 6 January 2025.
To make a late application for the September 2025 Reception year group, please complete the In Year Transfer application form which can be found at the bottom of this webpage.
Powys Local Authority has one primary school intake in each school year, which is at the beginning of the Autumn Term after a child has attained their 4th birthday.
Please Note:
The Primary Common Offer Date is Wednesday 16 April 2025.
Having a place at a nursery or pre-school class does not guarantee a place in the main school at age 4. You will still need to apply for a place in the main school. If you don't apply for a place, and your preferred school is full, preference will be given to those who have applied.

Apply for a Secondary School Place
The Secondary School Admission Round for Powys learners born between 01/09/13 - 31/08/14 opens on Monday, 16 September 2024.
The closing date for the admission round is Friday, 8 November 2024.
To make a late application for the September 2025 Year 7 year group, please complete the In Year Transfer application form which can be found at the bottom of this webpage.
Powys Local Authority arranges admission to secondary schools in the Autumn Term before the date of transfer.
Please Note: Secondary School Common Offer Date is Monday, 3 March 2025.

Apply for an In-year Transfer
Home residence is not changing: If you wish to transfer your child to a different school at any time (except due to moving house), you should discuss this with the Headteacher of your current school. Then you should approach the Headteacher of your chosen school and discuss the possibility of admission, explaining why you want to change schools.
Home residence is changing: Where a request is made because of a change of address, please ensure that adequate notice is given for the transfer to be considered and arranged. The Admissions Team are unable to consider applications until confirmation of a moving date has been received.
If your application for transfer is approved, your child will change schools at the beginning of a term or half term.
